In Memory of Retired Captain Jim Carlin


Instead of fighting back flames today, the Dallas Firefighter's Museum fight back tears. On July 2, 2020 Retired Captain Jim Carlin passed away. He was beloved by all.


Jim became a Dallas Firefighter on July 1, 1964 and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Jim was one of the most decorated firefighters in the history of the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department. During his career he was awarded the Department's two highest awards for bravery - the Distinguished Service Award and the Medal of Valor. "We feel it's a terrible loss for the family and a terrible loss for our community, as Jim Carlin is laid to rest, we remember the hero he was to us all. We send our deepest condolences to his wife Debra Carlin and their family at this time" said longtime friend, fellow firefighter, and Museum President Trixie Lohrke.


Jim's funeral services will be held as follows:

Visitation: Tuesday, July 7th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home 2343 Lake Road & Highway 78 Lavon, Texas 75166 Graveside Services: Wednesday, July 8 at 10:00 AM Lake View Cemetery 2343 County Road 486 Lavon, Texas 75166 Uniforms Requested The family asks that donations be made to the Dallas Firefighter's Museum at www.dallasfiremuseum.org/donate or to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
