Scouting America
In keeping with the Museum’s mission to provide life safety education to the public and children, the Museum is honored to partner with Scouting America to offer two merit badges: First Aid and Fire Safety. Both workshops are offered at no cost to the participants. The scouts are welcome to tour the museum following the workshops.
Three of our Board Members are registered Council Merit Badge Counselors. Each offers expertise in subject manner and is dedicated to educating our youth.

First Aid Merit
Badge Workshop​
In two Saturday sessions, the scout will interactively demonstrate knowledge of the First Aid badge requirements and participate in hands-on skills. Workshops are limited to 20 participants to ensure the quality of the workshop and help the scout successfully complete each of the requirements to obtain the First Aid Merit Badge.

Prerequisites for the workshop: Participants will be expected to complete the First Aid Merit Badge worksheet PRIOR to the first session, be able to speak to the situations contained in the worksheet, and be prepared to demonstrate specific skills of applying splints, moving ill/injured persons, applying tourniquets, performing CPR, and activating Emergency Services in various situations. There will be homework between the first and second workshop.

Fire Safety Merit Badge Workshop
In two Saturday sessions, the scout will interactively demonstrate knowledge of the Fire Safety Badge Requirements and participate in hands-on skills. Workshops are limited to 20 participants to ensure the quality of the workshop and that the participants have successfully completed each of the requirements of the merit badge.
Prerequisites for the workshop: Participants will be expected to complete the Fire Safety Badge worksheet PRIOR to the first session, be able to speak to situations outlined, be prepared to demonstrate the specific skills of testing smoke alarms, lighting a match safely, starting a charcoal fire, candle safety, utilizing a camp stove and lanterns, and setting up a campfire safely.
